6th grade MTXE got off to a great stop in GA Cup 1 with a win and a great deal of learning. MTXE had a thrilling 53-51 double overtime victory over Double Trouble on Friday evening to start the tournament. Miguel Mejia led the way with 12 points and Ryan Kim and Michael Dee chopped in 10 points each. Carter Kandilakis added eight points including the game winning basket in the final overtime. Saturday proved a new challenge for the team as the started off with a 52-13 loss to eventual tournament champion Team Elite Proteges. Ryan Kim paced MTXE with 4 points. MTXE responses well to adversity with a hard-fought 41-28 loss to Promise Elite. This was a team effort with Nathan Mancini and Max Etienne chipping in clutch 3-pointers. Michael Dee made another clutch play with an and-one layup to end the 3rd quarter. MTXE got within three points but was unable close out as Promise Elite pulled away. Over the weekend MTXE faced adversity and will be able to use this experience moving forward in the season. It is these experiences that build chemistry and allow teams to overcome adversity later in the season.
